摘要: Abstract Purpose In contrast to studies of adults, there are limited published data regarding palliative radiation therapy (RT) for children, and further study is greatly needed. Methods materials We performed a retrospective review all pediatric patients referred our oncology department over 5-year span from January 1, 2007, December 31, 2011. Results Of 244 total referred, subset 45 (18.4%) were treated specifically with intent 83 courses RT. Follow-up until closure or death available 98% patients. The median survival after initiation RT was 6.5 months. Overall, 23% the children alive at last follow-up visit, 77% deceased. prescribed completed in 93% courses; 7% discontinued because clinical deterioration due systemic disease progression. overall symptom response rate (partial complete) 72%. Overall by 80% bone pain, 55% dyspnea chest 58% neurologic symptoms, 50% bleeding, 100% liver pain ascites. Response rates histology leukemias, 91% neuroblastoma, 76% Ewing sarcoma, 64% rhabdomyosarcoma, 54% osteosarcoma, primary central nervous system neoplasms. For responders, time 1 week. patients, repeat course same site performed. No experienced RTOG (Radiation Therapy Oncology Group) grade 3 greater acute late toxicities. Conclusions useful tool that merits continued use study.
