摘要: The presence of the opal chimaera, Chimaera opalescens, is reported for first time in deep waters Azores, with capture four specimens by fishermen and video recording an additional five individuals. Species identification was supported 646 bp sequenced fragment mitochondrial gene cytochrome oxidase subunit I. Because C. opalescens a recently recognised species that had been recurrently misidentified as rabbitfish, monstrosa, historical data monstrosa Azores were reviewed to assess possible both region. Although several authors have occurrence Azorean since 1800s, majority these are based on only three caught during late 1800s. investigation performed using literature examination museum still available concluded most likely scenario absent from past records region misidentifications opalescens.
