摘要: Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and glaucoma are degenerative conditions of the retina a significant cause irreversible blindness in developed countries. Alzheimer’s disease (AD), most common dementia elderly, is often associated with AMD glaucoma. The cardinal features AD include extracellular accumulation amyloid β (Aβ) intracellular deposits hyper-phosphorylated tau (p-tau). Neuroinflammation brain iron dyshomeostasis accompany Aβ p-tau and, together, lead to progressive neuronal death dementia. drusen, hallmark AMD, retinal ganglion cells (RGC), main cell type implicated glaucoma, accompanying inflammation suggest overlapping pathology. Visual abnormalities prominent believed develop before cognitive decline. Some caused by visual cortex, while others due RGC loss or AMD-associated degeneration. Here, we review recent information on Aβ, p-tau, chronic inflammation, as pathogenic mechanisms linking three conditions, chelation therapeutic option for these disorders. Additionally discussed role prion protein, infamous disorders, Aβ-mediated toxicity paradoxically, neuroprotection.
