摘要: Publisher Summary This chapter summarizes the regulatory systems of λ to point out that both its developmental pathways follow finely tuned temporal control mechanisms far more sophisticated than those conceived in past decades. The also emphasizes salient features complex processes, such as: how a multivalent operator makes transcription initiation from two divergent promoters mutually exclusive; system is modified ignore punctuation signals; expression unlinked operons coordinated; viral chromosome integrates into host chromosome; and biological “decision” may be made. Many these provide new concepts directions studying biology other systems, prokaryotic eukaryotic. Phage temperate bacterial virus thrives on dual, but exclusive, life style. After infection Escherichia coli , it either multiplies produces progeny viruses by lysing or own DNA with concomitant repression genes virus-specific repressor. In latter case, inserted called “prophage” replicated passively as part chromosome. cell said become lysogenic, because presence repressor immune superinfection second particle.
