摘要: Introduction: Placental malaria (PM) is a major public health problem that constitutes significant concern for the mother, and especially developing fetus offspring. Current means of prevention have limitations, including restricted window intervention excludes first trimester pregnancy, fact very few drugs can be used this purpose. The identification VAR2CSA antigen, specific to PM parasites, offers an excellent opportunity develop vaccine against disease. Proof concept first-generation nearing completion, two clinical trials are underway.Areas covered: This review focuses on PM, which mainly caused by Plasmodium falciparum. highlights recent advances key milestones led optimal target within large protein. paper also points out how future improvements strengthen process achieve effective in field.Expert op...
