Adult picky eating. Phenomenology, taste sensitivity, and psychological correlates

摘要: Abstract Objectives: To explore psychosocial correlates of picky eating in adults, document differences the taste sensitivity and non-picky examine behavioral characteristics this understudied phenomenon. Methods: In Study One, 489 participants completed a survey on food choice habits, including questions that asked to self-identify as eaters. Picky eaters were compared their rates endorsement range selection behaviors attitudes. Two, who identified either or responded questionnaire measures obsessive compulsive disorder, depression, disordered symptoms, disgust sensitivity, general neophobia. Participants also rated intensity bitter sweet solutions at three concentrations Labeled Magnitude Scale. Results: more likely endorse variety anomalous attitudes toward food, rejection foods based sensory (taste, color, texture). less enjoyment eating, report they unhealthy had significantly higher OCD neophobia than eaters, score within clinical depression but did not have scores both tastants intense Discussions: Implications findings for future study mechanisms Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder are discussed.
