摘要: Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is characterized by recurrent attacks of lancinating facial pain in the dermatomal distribution trigeminal nerve. TN rare, affecting 4 to 13 people per 100,000. Although there remains a debate surrounding pathogenesis TN, neurovascular compromise most currently accepted theory. Minimal stimulation caused light touch, talking, or chewing can lead debilitating and incapacitation patient. Pain may occur sporadically, though primarily unilateral onset. The diagnosis typically determined clinically. Treatment options include medications, surgery, complementary approaches. Anti-epileptic tricyclic antidepressant medications are first-line treatments. Surgical management patients with be indicated those who have either failed medical treatment at least three suffer from intolerable side-effects, non-remitting symptoms. categorized as destructive non-destructive. Deep brain motor cortex neuro-modulatory off label emerging techniques which offer relief that otherwise refractory pharmacological surgery. Still, sufficient data has yet obtained more studies needed.
