Improper use of regression equations in earth sciences

摘要: A regression equation used to estimate a variable is appropriately only the dependent of that equation; inappropriately when solved for an independent variable. Examples given here this misuse equations are based on actual cases in sedimentologic, geomorphologic, and paleohydrologic literature. The error involved can amount several hundred percent.
