摘要: SUMMARY A histological and morphometric study was conducted on 372 placentae out o f a total 440 delivered in Zanzibar. Fibrin (F), intervillous space (IVS) Villi (V) relative volumes were determined by the point-counting system ratio syncytium to blood capillaries linear intercept method. Parasitemia load inflammatory reaction graded semiquantitatively use 1 mm square grid. Parasitised red cells identified active malaria (AM), presence malarial pigment only past (PM), absence both characterized non-malarial (NM). AM(17.87%), PM(21,61 %) NM(60.52%) did not vary significantly weight. Newborns from AM had lower weight than those PM NM. Peripheral placental parasitemia coincident. Placental increased parallel with birthweight. The latter decreased increasing severity inflammation, particularly prevalence lymphocytes IVS. Significantly volume F found placentae, while no significant variation noticed IVS V volumes. syncytium/capillaries AM. We conclude that low birthweight is linked inflammation but deposits or load. Non-leukotactic lymphokines might play some role. Morphologic aspects bespeak for less mature placenta expected this represent an adaptive change.
