摘要: Abstract Recent work by cultural theorists has celebrated the “cultures of hybridity” associated with diasporic populations. This paper draws upon research undertaken young British South Asian Muslim women to explore some everyday dilemmas negotiating identities. I begin emphasising contextual and contingent ways in which identities are expressed. Diasporic always configured through gender, illustrate how respondents negotiate relation both changing familial gender ideals relations against racialised stereotypes. Finally, consider exploring possibilities for reworking drawing on alternative identifications.
