Collision-aware design of rate adaptation for multi-rate 802.11 WLANs

摘要: One of the key challenges in designing a rate adaptation scheme for IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs (WLANs) is to differentiate bit errors from link-layer collisions. Many recent schemes adopt RTS/CTS mechanism prevent collision losses triggering unnecessary decrease. However, handshake incurs significant overhead and rarely activated today's infrastructure WLANs. In this paper we propose new that mitigates effect on operation adaptation. contrast previous approaches adopting fixed rate-increasing decreasing thresholds, our varies threshold values based measured network status. Using "retry" information MAC headers as feedback, enable transmitter gauge current state. The proposed does not require additional probing incurred by exchanges can be easily deployed without changes firmware. We demonstrate effectiveness solution comparing with existing through extensive simulations.
