摘要: Whaling remains one of the most contentious issues in global conservation. In South Korea, where commercial and subsistence whaling are both illegal, domestic sales cetacean products such as skin, blubber red meat allowed if they accidently caught. However, environmental groups have claimed that high price may be acting an incentive for illegal hunting ‘deliberate by-catch’ whales intentionally killed or left to die by fishermen when become trapped their nets. this paper we investigate issue deliberate by-catch protected Minke J-stock population Korean waters using grounded theory, approach allows theories understanding emerge from analysis qualitative quantitative data. Our research suggests is almost certainly taking place but and/or importation Japan far more significant sources whale meat. We discuss possible measures reduce incentives introduction mandatory reporting quantities supplied consumed restaurants a tax on at auction. More generally, our illustrates how movements can shed light scale wildlife trade combination methodologies provide complex, multifaceted conservation issue.
