摘要: In this work, the results of an experimental study for assessing effects Ultrasonic Impact Treatment on fatigue resistance Friction Stir Welded aluminum alloy panels are presented. Although significant compressive residual stress introduced material by ultrasonic impact treatment (UIT) was expected to cause retardation in crack growth rate, only noted at low initial ΔΚ values. At high values, effect UIT practically diminishes. The phenomenon attributed relaxation/redistribution stresses with damage. This provides alarming situation where damage tolerance design relies models profile is taken into account without knowledge potential re-distribution caused accumulation. findings work also indicate that any FCG tests performed can be considered as case-specific and conclusions drawn case studied.
