摘要: High resolution gamma-ray spectroscopy is a relatively new field that holds great promise for further understanding of high energy astrophysical processes. Preliminary results such as the annihilation radiation from galactic center, /sup 26/Al line plane and cyclotron lines neutron stars may well be just initial discoveries rich yet undeveloped field. When spectrometer (GRSE) was removed GRO payload NASA decided to initiate balloon program permit continued development improvement instrumentation in this field, scientific observations. The Gamma-Ray Imaging Spectrometer (GRIS) one experiments selected part program. instrument contains number innovative features are expected produce significant source location accuracy sensitivity over previous satellite experiments. 6 refs., 2 figs.
