摘要: The Nicobar megapode Megapodius nicobariensis is a mound nesting bird, endemic to Islands. Colour-marked reveals that it primarily monogamous species, although temporary pair bonds, change in partner and extra-pair copulation are also observed this species. During our study, unpaired megapodes tried steal the mate from an existing lead changes partnerships, bonding. An egg-laying showed dominance over non-egg-laying pair. However, dominant rank society of was not consistent, varied temporally spatially. Dominancy status appears because rather than territory they territorial throughout year. Alpha pairs were more likely show fidelity beta pairs. Territories overlapped where large number used mound. average size 0.81 ± 0.12 ha. A major function protect neighbours or strangers. Both partners equally defended their others. In chapter, reasons for mating system discussed attempted explain copulation.
