摘要: Although the risks associated with extended wear contact lenses are well-known, there has not been an adequate explanation of why sleeping on increases risk infection. It is contended that reduction in available oxygen caused by does itself explain high rate corneal infection wearing while sleeping. This paper examines contribution mechanism sleep makes to infection, based patient studies two optometric practices. The results show ocular particularly ulcers, substantially increased overnight lenses. A review role deprivation, atmospheric pollution, bacterial survival strategies, infection-resistant defenses during wakefulness, and patterns indicates deprivation cornea only factor suggested combination introduction airborne pollutants lens day, reduced transmission through closed lids, lack eye lid movement together create conditions which most likely occur.
