Prevalence of metabolic syndrome and the association with socio-demographic characteristics and physical activity in urban population of Iranian adults: a population-based study.

摘要: Abstract Background The metabolic syndrome (MetS) is the main concern of health problem in transition population. objective was to determine prevalence MetS and its association with socio-demographic physical activity Iranian adults. Methods A population-based cross-sectional study 1000 representative samples aged 20–70 years conducted urban area northern Iran. data were collected by interview assessed standard International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). Weight, height, waist circumference systolic diastolic blood pressures measured methods. Fasting plasma glucose, triglycerides, total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein-cholesterol level low lipoprotein cholesterol using enzymatic method. ATP III criteria used for diagnosis MetS. Results rate 42.3% (36.5% men 47.1% women, p  = 0.001). higher education at university appeared inversely associated (age adjusted OR = 0.34,  = 0.001) compared illiterate. rates 49.0%, 42.5% 22.6% low, moderate vigorous respectively ( After adjusting potential confounding factors, (adjusted OR = 0.46, Conclusion These results highlight an immediate action preventive measures programs modification cardio risk factors.
