摘要: The tear film comprises a major mechanism for protection of the ocular surface against harmful external agents. Disruption production can lead to dry eye syndrome, causing damage ranging from mild discomfort scarring with irreversible vision impairment. tears by lacrimal gland is influenced neuroendocrine, hormonal, and immunological factors. Reactive oxygen nitrogen species play an important role in its regulation. We assessed effects oxidative stress on antioxidant defenses ovariectomized rats supplemented n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFA) alpha-lipoic acid (ALP). found that PUFA did not measurably influence stress, but ALP had site-specific pro-oxidant effects, was improvement. As index proteins lipids, we measured levels carbonyl malondialdehyde (MDA), respectively. Enzymatic were as total superoxide dismutase (tSOD) glutathione peroxidase (GPx), non-enzymatic estimated vitamin C, glutathione, indirect oxide nitric levels. treatment restored resulting improvement Schirmer test all groups. results indicated reactive through species; however, altered metabolism species, increased activity improved production.
