摘要: Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the role of estrogens as antioxidants. Chain-breaking antioxidants, such vitamin E and C, protect biological membranes tissues from oxygen toxicity free radical attack by rapidly scavenging radicals to terminate chain oxidations. Studies have shown that estrogens, especially catechol function scavengers suppress peroxidations both in vitro vivo. The radical-mediated oxidations lipids are accompanied uptake, loss polyunsaturated lipids, formation lipid hydroperoxides their decomposition products, denaturation proteins by, for example, cross-linking cleavage, evolution low molecular weight gases, chemiluminescence, extent oxidation can be followed measuring any above changes, activities antioxidants estimated effects on linoleic acid, its esters, dilinoleoylphosphatidylcholine gives conjugated diene quantitatively. Accordingly, when is induced a constant flux radicals, rates substrate disappearance, observed.
