摘要: Purpose Assessing control is thought to be important in the management of intermittent exotropia, including decision perform surgery. The purpose this study was assess presence and degree any change occurring over course 1 day using a previously described 6-point clinic scale evaluate interobserver minute-to-minute variability. Design Prospective case series. Participants Twenty-five patients with exotropia. Methods Interobserver agreement determined 17 by comparing scores assessed simultaneously 2 observers (κ test). Minute-to-minute variability observed same assessing twice within 5 minutes. Variability these plus 8 additional (n = 13) 3 or 4 assessments at least hours apart. Main Outcome Measure Control exotropia measured scale. Results high 0.94 for distance κ 0.95 near fixation). Disagreements were no more than level on scale; therefore, further analysis, defined as ≥2 levels. For variability, (24%) tested minutes showed control: (6%) changed from tropia phoria (18%) near. Of 13 day, 6 (46%) fixation only, distance. Conclusions can vary throughout even minutes, phoric tropic vice versa. worst not always later day. This suggests that an isolated assessment may categorize severity individual patient.
