摘要: Summary Background Patients with COPD have frequent exacerbations. The role of respiratory viral infection is just emerging. We wished to determine prospectively the incidence in exacerbated and stable patients as well smokers who do not airways obstruction. Methods Stable were recruited along a group had smoked but did any Spirometry was performed sputum specimens tested for range 12 different viruses using PCR. Results One hundred thirty-six exacerbations COPD, 68 16 non-obstructed recruited. A virus detected 37% exacerbations, 12% smokers, p Conclusion Respiratory associated COPD. Rhinovirus most common infecting agent identified two cases human metapneumovirus also detected. Dual infections only seen amongst those admitted hospital acute Viruses more commonly severe disease.
