摘要: Publisher Summary This chapter reviews how hamsters and meadow voles discriminate between remember individuals, recognize kin, engage in competitive advertising by scent marking over-marking, analyze over-marks to learn about the relative quality of other individuals. Meadow primarily mark with urine or anogenital scent. Urine used for is generally deposited as relatively small spots, although larger areas covered probably also have communicative functions. Both over-marking. After one individual has marked, a second animal tends deposit on top partially overlapping that was first. Research over-marking hamsters, voles, species suggests existence amazing sensory processing determine, which individual's versus bottom an over-mark. Odors provide information relating hormonal state, dominant status, diet, health, major histocompatibility complex (MHC) type, aspects physical condition. These types may influence preferences mating partners females competitions individuals resources.
