An inventory of flood events in Athens, Greece, during the last 130 years. Seasonality and spatial distribution

摘要: This work focuses on flooding phenomena in Athens metropolitan area Greece. To this end, based a flood-event database aggregated with civil protection and documentary spatial evidence, an exhaustive inventory of floods the is developed, including events not previously studied. Fifty-two are identified between 1880 2010, various locations around basin, which caused 182 casualties substantial damage. Analysis shows increase flood occurrence during autumn, especially November, rise frequency recent decades. Spatial information used to identify segments drainage network that overflowed each these episodes. Geographic system-based analysis all indicates certain sections network, particularly central north-western parts study area, most vulnerable phenomena.
