Multiple motives for participating in adventure sports

摘要: Abstract Objectives The purpose of the present study was to explore possible multiple motives for participation in different adventure sports. Design Qualitative design, specifically an inductive-deductive approach informed by reversal theory, used analyze motivation data. Method Data collected using Scanlan Collaborative Interview (SCIM; Scanlan, Russell, Wilson, & 2003). Participants were very experienced sport participants involved riversurfing, mountain biking, kayaking, climbing and hang gliding. Results results indicated that participants' multifaceted. While some shared common motives, these often described orders importance participants. range found included: goal achievement, risk taking, social motivation, escape from boredom, pushing personal boundaries overcoming fear, as well connecting with natural environment, pleasurable kinaesthetic bodily sensations moving water or air. Conclusions authors argue a continuation recent trend provide more comprehensive picture complexities human sports which go beyond excitement- thrill-seeking behaviour.
