摘要: The underlying determinants of cardiovascular risk are governed by both genetic and lifestyle factors. One the major adverse outcomes unhealthy lifestyles is obesity, genesis which begins in childhood. Obesity, an important factor for atherosclerotic disease, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, persists (tracks) strongly from adolescent years to adulthood. Secular trends toward increased obesity past 25 have occurred children adults alike. Of interest, baseline adiposity precedes hyperinsulinemia all age groups, independently race, sex, insulin levels. Adiposity independent predictor developing cluster variables metabolic syndrome X, beginning Exposure a multiple burden over time enhances development coronary atherosclerosis hypertensive disease. In fact, autopsy studies youths shown that extent fibrotic plaques arteries, measured antemortem, increases markedly with presence X variables. Further, overweight children, levels associated left ventricular mass. young people, overnutrition, coupled physical inactivity, leads weight gain. Since dietary habits, sedentary interrelated modifiable, prevention intervention must begin early life. (c)2001 CHF, Inc.
