摘要: Abstract Two mutants of Saccharomyces cerevisiae have been isolated which demonstrate increased levels 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase activity. The activity this enzyme was paralleled by increases in sterol production. were selected virtue their resistance to the cytotoxic effects 6-ketocholestanol. It shown that results from decreased permeability cells oxygenated analog. Gas-liquid chromatographic analyses sterols present these strains implicate conversion squalene into as an important regulatory step biosynthesis yeast.
