摘要: BACKGROUND Loss or reversal of the normal asymmetry planum temporale (PT) has been reported in schicophrenia, and may be due to aberations gene(s) controlling development brain asymmetries. We tested this hypothesis a sample schizophrenics their relatives from families multiply affected with disorder. METHOD compared 32 55 non-schizophrenic first-degree 39 matched community controls. Volumetric measurements cortical volume beneath PT were obtained using Cavalieri method three-dimensionally reconstructed magnetic resonance imaging images. RESULTS coefficients patients did not differ significantly those Gender-specific analysis revealany differences. CONCLUSIONS Abnormalities are present familial schizophrenia, where genetic factors appear predominate.
