摘要: The metal d bands of Au and Ag individually adsorbed on Ru(001) have been observed with photoemission as the core 4f levels Au. adlayer display shifts in their centroids well band narrowing due to having fewer noble-metal nearest neighbors relative bulk metals. may be monitored by measuring doublet nature these valence-band densities states or sampling overall d-band width former not susceptible instrumental broadening problems. These widths receive contributions from spin-orbit splitting ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Delta}}}_{\mathrm{s}.\mathrm{o}.}$ intrinsic effects ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Delta}}}_{\mathrm{band}}$. separated inferred ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Delta}}}_{\mathrm{band}}$ for a monolayer suggests that substrate is contributing measurably bandwidth while little no effect Ag. Providing 4f-level are measured respect surface rather than bulk, consistent picture core-level chemical emerges that, granted lower number unlike nearest-neighbor atoms, compatible what has previously alloys.
