摘要: During the past few years, incidence of invasive group A Streptococcus (GAS) infection has been increasing. However, there are presently no clear recommendations regarding antibiotic prophylaxis for close contacts index patients. The aims this study were 1) to determine prevalence carriage same GAS strain as patient's among patients with infections and 2) assess importance exposure duration. From March 1995 1996, authors prospectively included in all infection, defined by Working Group on Severe Streptococcal Infections, who came Hopital Maisonneuve-Rosemont Montreal, Quebec, Canada. An epidemiologic investigation was systematically carried out each case. Contacts divided into two groups: those had spent 24 hours or more patient during week preceding beginning his her illness 12-24 that week. Strains examined serotyping (proteins M T presence absence serum opacity factor) characterization streptococcal pyrogenic exotoxins (exotoxins A, B, C). One hundred 17 cases screened. considered positive if they bacterium exotoxin Among at least per their respective cases, 13 48 (27%) found be harboring serotype (95% confidence interval 14.5-39.5). By comparison, only one 54 12- 24-hour (1.8%) carrying 0-5.3). This difference between groups statistically significant (p<0.001). median age carriers (10 years) significantly lower than noncarriers (39 (p< =0.0005). showed rarely colonized GAS. If against is recommended, it should probably target an infected onset.
