摘要: After deploring the mystification of term sustainability and tendencies to conflate it with society's desiderata, we desegregate three types sustainability: social, economic, environmental. clarifying these linked overlapping concepts, construing them sustainable development, distinguish quantitative throughput growth from qualitative mention intergenerational equity scarcity natural capital that together lead definition environmental by output/input rule, i.e., keep wastes within assimilative capacities; harvest regenerative capacities renewable resources; deplete non-renewables at rate which substitutes are developed. distinguishing development growth, paper describes concept uses present four alternative definitions sustainability.
