Atmospheric patterns driving Holocene productivity in the Alboran Sea (Western Mediterranean): A multiproxy approach

摘要: High-resolution paleoproductivity variations have been reconstructed in a productive cell the Alboran Sea for Holocene. Fossil coccolithophore assemblages studied along with U37K′-estimated sea-surface temperature (SST) and other paleoenvironmental proxies. The appearance of this is suggested at 7.7 ka cal. BP was linked to establishment western anti-cyclonic gyre. From that time until present, nannofossil accumulation rate Florisphaera profunda has revealed successive episodes weakening strengthening upwelling conditions simultaneous changes Western Mediterranean Deep Water (WMDW) formation Gulf Lions. A two-phase scenario operating millennial–centennial scale proposed explain climatic oceanographic variability: (1) coeval more arid climate conditions, weaker northerlies or north-westerlies blowing over Lions would triggered slackening WMDW form...
