摘要: Nitinol (NiTi) shape memory metal alloy makes it possible to prepare functional implants. A curved intramedullary NiTi nail has been shown cause bending of the bone, bone thickening, increase in cortical area, and reduction longitudinal growth. The purpose present study was find out whether these changes are caused by force or nailing itself. Pre-shaped nails were implanted cooled martensitic form into medullary cavity right femur 12 rats, where they started restore their austenitic form, causing a force. Straight used as controls another rats. After weeks, operated femurs compared with non-operated contralateral counterparts differences between groups. Anteroposterior radiographs demonstrated bowing only group. Retardation growth observed both groups, showing that effect seems be due Increase cross-sectional area thickness found However, this more evident nail, indicating induce changes.
