摘要: OBJECTIVES To determine the clinical and biochemical effects of fasting during Ramadan on patients with cardiac disease. METHODS Eighty-six outpatients heart disease intention to fast were studied in month 1996 (1416 H) at King Fahd Armed Forces Hospital, Jeddah, Kingdom Saudi Arabia. Detailed assessments performed within 3 days before start then last day Ramadan. RESULTS There 54 (62.8%) males 32 (37.2%) females a mean age 56.3 years (range, 17-84 ). Forty-six (53%) had coronary artery disease, 23 (27%) valvular 13 (15%) congestive failure 4 (5%) treated for arrhythmia. Sixty-two (72%) New York Heart Association (NYHA) Class I, 18 (21%) II, 6 (7%) III. Seventy-four (86%) managed entire Ramadan, 9 (10.4%) missed up 7 days, (3.5%) could not fast. There no significant changes NYHA (p=0.12). No occurred any hematological or parameters CONCLUSIONS The stable are minimal. The majority can without detrimental effects.
