摘要: Objective. This article examines the relationships between behaviour, psychological functioning, caring environment and subsequent institutionalization in patients with dementia living at home a carer. Design. Longitudinal study of behaviour dementia, nested case-control to investigate predictors institutionalization. Setting. Subjects known service, carer. All lived Oxfordshire, UK. Participants. 100 people (Alzheimer's disease and/or vascular dementia) who were carer start study. Measures. At 4-monthly intervals, carers interviewed subjects assessed cognitively. Subjects' functioning using Present Behavioural Examination. Results. The characteristics which best predicted 1 year later were: excessive night-time activity; immobility or difficulty walking; incontinence; being away from for more than 16 hours week; cared by female. Aggressive was not associated an increased chance entry into institution later, although it prevalent 4 months before entering institution. Conclusions. Both can help predicting currently will enter later. These are same as those immediate cause institutionalization. Copyright© 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
