摘要: Abstract Particulate material plays a major role in the transport of sparingly soluble nutrients such as P and Fe natural surface waters. Microbes might gain access to these either indirectly through particulate dissolution or directly microbial attack. As such, it seems reasonable expect link between concentration bacterial growth To explore this link, series microcosm experiments were performed presence typical freshwater cyanobacteria, Synechococcus sp., grown dilute BG-11 culture media absence basaltic continental riverine material. Results demonstrate that particulates can increase biomass by 1) triggering otherwise unfavourable conditions, 2) increasing total maximum concentration, 3) inducing bacteria during post-exponential phase. These effects are found be enhanced concentration. also indicate positive feedback nutrient release from growing bacteria, where dissolving enhance growth, which further promotes altering fluid pH. Microscopic analysis showed direct physical contact suggesting attach on mineral surfaces required nutrients. Furthermore, frequent clusters observed associated with particulates, indicating an aggregation material, may facilitate higher burial efficiency organic carbon.
