Distance sampling for estimating springhare, Cape hare and steenbok densities in South Africa

摘要: Distance sampling using line transects has become a well-known method for estimating densities of both large and small mammals in relatively open habitats, although it not yet been reported smaller (<10 kg) southern Africa. In 2007 2008 we used distance to estimate numbers springhares (Pedetes capensis), Cape hares (Lepus capensis) steenbok (Raphicerus campestris) on farms near Kimberley, South Surveys were conducted Benfontein Game Farm, whereas surveys occurred nearby small-livestock farms.
