摘要: Leptin levels in lean adults vary response to short-term alterations energy balance. We tested whether leptin responded changes balance obese males a similar manner individuals. enrolled eight obese, healthy 12-day study composed of four consecutive dietary treatment periods 3 days each: baseline eucaloric feeding followed by randomized crossover overfeeding (130% total expenditure (TEE)) or underfeeding (70% TEE), separated (100% TEE) washout period. measured TEE with doubly labeled water prior baseline. were throughout the third day each and 24-h weighted averaged calculated. Subjects' ad libitum intake during breakfast buffet following period was recorded. During underfeeding, decreased 21 +/- 6% (P < 0.01) from previous overfeeding, increased 25 11% when subjects underfed first, but did not increase (5 8%, nonsignificant (n.s.)) overfed first. Changes calculated for subject after over-, under-, correlate mesor (R(2) = 0.006, n.s). acutely responsive negative balance, positive unless previously underfed. Consequently, do respond that would protect against weight gain.
