摘要: Objectives The purpose of this study was to determine whether intrinsic histological abnormalities the pulmonary trunk (PT) are present from birth and interact with palliative surgery and/or repair. Background Little is known about PT histology in patients tetralogy Fallot (TOF), especially era surgical intervention childhood. Methods We studied 39 formalin-fixed necropsy heart specimens TOF compared them 17 normal control specimens. Sections aorta were by light microscopy using various stains; findings graded according severity. Results Among group (1 fetus, 11 infants, 14 children, 13 adults), had undergone 10 reparative at a median age 8 years (range 2.5 18 years). Histological changes grade 2 or higher 59% (medionecrosis), 36% (fibrosis), 56% (cystlike formation), (abnormal elastic tissue configuration) patients. Total grading scores hearts (median 6, range 1 9) controls 1, 0 6; p Conclusions Marked exist controls. These infancy among who surgery, although operations cohort performed late. Our data suggest that structural PT, similar these recently shown aorta, intrinsic.
