Local communities and health disaster management in the mining sector

摘要: Mining activities throughout the Southern African Development Community (SADC) have impacted on health and safety of mining communities for many decades. Despite economic contribution to surrounding communities, a huge amount social environmental harm is associated with industry. In this regard, companies have, one hand, contributed toward improved development by providing jobs, paying taxes earning foreign exchange. On other they been linked publicly poor labour conditions, corruption, pollution incidents, failings, as well disrespect human rights. The objectives study are give an overview natural factors relating disasters in selected environment. Regarding findings, paper focuses involved creation disasters. include poverty, unemployment, housing infrastructure, prostitution high influx unaccompanied migrant labour. Major issues which will be highlighted, extraordinary incidence rate HIV STIs (sexually transmitted infections), addiction mental illness. (natural) threats that discussed harmful particles air water, excessive noise overcrowded unhygienic living conditions. conclusion, also finds need ‘fenced in’ terms disaster management instead being excluded.
