摘要: Non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) is a major clinical and public health problem in Kuwait. The objective of the study was to determine prevalence rates NIDDM among representative sample Kuwaiti adult population aged 20 older two out five governorates identify associated risk factors for disease. Diabetic presented at relatively young age, rate age group 20–39 5.7% (95% confidence interval, 4.4–7.0) 40–59 18.3% 16.1–20.6). Obesity significant factor, P<0.001. strong association family history (adjusted odds ratio=1.80, P<0.001) suggests genetic component. Hypertension markedly with IGT (P<0.001). With demographic transition which already started if remains same, aging will contribute even more upward trends abnormal its serious impact morbidity mortality population. between hypertension may suggest common approach prevention control these conditions.
