摘要: Background Carbamazepine (CBZ), a frequently used anticonvulsant drug, is one of the most common causes life-threatening cutaneous adverse drug reactions such as toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) and Stevens–Johnson syndrome (SJS). Recent studies have revealed strong association between HLA-B*1502 CBZ-induced TEN/SJS in Taiwan Han Chinese population. Objectives This study aimed to investigate human leucocyte antigens (HLA) multi-ethnic Malaysian population. Methods A sample 21 unrelated patients with 300 race-matched, healthy controls were genotyped for HLA-A, -B -DR using polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Allele frequencies compared. Results was present 75.0% (12/16) Malay but only 15.7% (47/300) normal (odds ratio 16.15, 95% confidence interval 4.57–62.4; corrected P-value = 7.87 × 10−6), which suggests HLA TEN/SJS. Additionally, found all three two Indian patients. Existing data show that allele are generally much higher Asian populations than White European populations, explains incidences SJS TEN countries. Conclusions strongly associated population Malaysia, has been seen Taiwan. indicates genetic apparent incidence linked presence HLA-B*1502, irrespective racial origin.
