摘要: The paper examines the socio-cultural bases of spousal violence in Kaduna Metropolis. It x-rays perception gender roles and causes within generic concept violence. Given dearth data lack systematic documentation violence, this study attempts to fill gap by providing a sensitive through its disaggregated analysis. The findings were derived from survey 590 respondents, 48.9 % (290) females 51.1% (300) males using multi-stage cluster sampling technique as well qualitative Focus Group Discussions In-depth interviews with key informants community. reveal that most people still subscribe traditional though submissiveness women is increasingly being challenged. Moreover, while against condoned, men unacceptable. Women therefore retaliate passive resistance form deliberate sluggishness, refusal serve food sexual neglect. Insubordination sex related problem perceived female was attributed aggressiveness on part husbands, problems, neglect provider role interference mothers in-law. concludes much experience borne out social cultural prescriptions which often are skewed favour line findings, appropriate recommendations highlighted. In particular, view important religion plays Nigeria, religious leaders should be involved changing people’s attitudes
