Nonlinear Dielectric Susceptibility in Blue Phases of Chiral Liquid Crystals

摘要: Abstract The deformation of the cubic blue phase I along field changes from dilatation to compression or vice versa when electric vector is rotated one crystallographic direction another. This phenomenon termed anomalous electrostriction and together with topology diagrams phases awaits elucidation. Standard theory not able explain these observations. Following experiments Pieranski et al. we generalized standard by incorporating a nonlinear dielectric susceptibility tensor (NDS). It shown that distortion in presence NDS may display electrostriction, accordance experiment. These results seem indicate relevant order parameter for phases.
