摘要: Otitis media (OM) is one of the most common diseases childhood, and causes both direct indirect costs to families society. This study calculated arising from OM among 736 day care children whose infections were prospectively monitored for up 15 mo in 10 centres city Oulu. The survey had 1.5 attacks acute per person year, made 2.1 visits a physician (cost $US55 visit−1) received courses antimicrobials $24 course−1). Their parents absent work 1.9 d year $85 d−1). Either adenoidectomy ($890 operation−1) or tympanostomy ($740) was performed on 6% overall surgery $80 at risk. In total, each single attack cost $228. average annual child younger than 2y $1040, those aged 2—3 y $283 older 3 $141. cumulative age 6 7y $2549 child−1. When attributable risk centre taken into account, Finland, country with about 5 million inhabitants, gives rise total $US138 million. leads considerable expenses even expensive preventive measures would be cost-effective. □Adenoidectomy, analysis, otitis media,
