摘要: An ever growing literature is providing evidence that levodopa, the major therapeutic agent for Parkinson’s disease, and its metabolites (dopamine quinone derivatives) are toxic to neurons, particularly in tissue culture. Neurons do not survive well presence of levodopa undergo apoptosis. Toxicity has also been seen some vivo models. The most commonly suggested mechanism by which dopamine induce toxicity promoting oxidative stress. In support this theory findings certain anti-oxidants, including sulphydryl compounds ascorbic acid, decrease neurotoxic effect. On other hand, there a few studies have failed show animal
