摘要: Purpose To compare the effectiveness of a topical nonsteroidal drug (diclofenac 0.1%) and a topical steroidal (betamethasone in preventing cystoid macular edema (CME) blood–aqueous barrier (BAB) disruption after small-incision cataract surgery foldable intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. Settings Shohzankai Medical Foundation Miyake Eye Hospital, Tokyo, Japan. Methods This multicenter interventional double-masked randomized study comprised 142 patients having phacoemulsification IOL Seventy-one were to receive diclofenac eyedrops 71, betamethasone for 8 weeks postoperatively. The incidence severity CME evaluated by fluorescein angiography. Blood–aqueous was determined laser flare–cell photometry. Results Of patients, 63 men 79 women. Five surgery, angiographic lower group (18.8%) than (58.0%) ( P = .0003). Conclusions Diclofenac more effective BAB surgery. Thus, antiinflammatory agents should be considered routine treatment eyes
