摘要: Background In the present study, influence of cytokines on 1-year recovery in lumbar radicular pain was examined. Methods In total, 110 patients with symptomatic disc herniation were followed for 1 year. Uni- and multivariate linear regression used to assess interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8, degeneration endplate changes (Modic changes) Oswestry Disability Index (ODI change; primary outcome) visual analogue scale (VAS) low back (LBP) leg (secondary outcomes). Results Less favourable ODI outcome correlated higher serum IL-6 levels (B = −3.41, 95% CI −5.52 −1.30, p = 0.002), non-surgical treatment (B = −7.03, 1.21 12.84, p = 0.018), baseline intensity (B = −2.28, −3.21 −1.35, p < 0.001) educational level (B = −5.57, 0.66 10.47, p = 0.027). High VAS LBP at year associated high IL-6, longer duration baseline. Conclusions High levels, but not or Modic changes, less pain. Intense initial pain, treatment, lower before also a slower first after herniation.
