摘要: Objectives: In Qataris, a population characterized by small size and high rate of consanguinity, between two-thirds to three-quarters adults are overweight or obese. We investigated the relevance 23 obesity-related loci in Qatari population. Methods: Eight-hundred-four individuals assessed be third generation Qataris were included study assigned 3 groups according their body mass index (BMI): 190 lean (BMI < 25 kg/m 2 ); 131 (25 ≤ BMI 30 )a nd 483 obese (BMI≥ ). Genomic DNA was isolated from peripheral blood genotyped TaqMan. Results: Two significantly associated with obesity Qataris: TFAP2B variation (rs987237) (A allele versus G allele: chi-square = 10.3; P 0.0013) GNPDA2 (rs10938397) 6.15; 0.013). The GG genotype negatively (OR 0.21; 0.0031). Conversely, GNDPA2 homozygous higher risk subjects age<32 years (P=0.0358). Conclusion: showed different genetic profile compared Western populations. Studying background is primary importance as etiology given disease might population-specific.
