摘要: Shock and unloading experiments on quartz silicate rocks indicate that the release adiabats lie below Hugoniot. The hysteresis energy dissipation inherent in this situation have important wave propagation implications. On loading, there is a pressure‐induced transition to stishovite phase which does not occur under conditions of thermodynamic equilibrium, Hugoniot passes through metastable mixed‐phase region for several tens GPa. One interpretation data reversible, mixture remains frozen unloading. However, material strength may also play role. A complete thermodynamically consistent equation state includes transitions effects has been developed used examine shock order quantify kinetics reverse separate hysteretic due from those strength. model allows quantitative determination effect ground materials.
