摘要: Our previous analyses in postmortem prefrontal cortex samples from a well-characterized cohort of severely affected schizophrenics and matched controls demonstrated decreased expression myelin oligodendrocyte-related genes the disease state. This expression, now replicated independent studies, suggests that there is disruption oligodendrocyte function and/or loss oligodendrocytes schizophrenia. In current report, we review studies schizophrenia present data demonstrating consistently fewer compared to controls. The decrease density reached 22% (p < 0.01) layer III area 9 20% 0.02) white matter superior frontal gyrus. These data, when taken together with carried out by us other groups, imaging microscopic point major involvement abnormalities Therapies modulating survival differentiation may therefore be beneficial
